The Quadrant Hotel: “Designed to Be Different.”
High Rise, Hotels
An innovative, multi-award-winning hotel, the Quadrant was thoughtfully planned around a central courtyard anchors the two buildings on the site, making it delightfully, conceptionally engaged. Rethinking the fabric of high-rise made the Quadrant a welcome presence on Auckland city’s skyline.

In the heart of Auckland’s bustling CBD, The Quadrant Hotel Auckland stands as a symbol of bold innovation in New Zealand’s hospitality landscape. Officially opened on August 2, 2006, The Quadrant wasn’t just another hotel launch—it was the introduction of a new way to experience city accommodation.
A Visionary Launch That Changed the City Skyline
Developed by visionary property developer Nigel McKenna, The Quadrant Hotel was created to fill a critical gap in the market: providing affordable, design-led, four-star accommodation for business travellers, independent tourists, and long-stay guests.
Set between the historic High Court of Auckland and the luxury Hyatt, the hotel rises 24 storeys, offering 250 studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. The Quadrant was purpose-built to cater to modern travellers who demanded both style and functionality in the heart of Auckland’s vibrant business district.
Innovative Design with Architectural Recognition
Clark Brown Architects, Martin Hughes Interiors, and renowned bar designer Tom Keyring collaborated to craft a property that redefined high-rise hospitality in New Zealand. The design broke away from traditional hotel layouts, introducing a courtyard-centric configuration that maximises natural light and fosters a connection with the surrounding urban environment.
In 2007, the Quadrant Hotel’s design was awarded the NZ Institute of Architects Resene Local Award for Architecture, with judges describing it as: “A delightful and conceptually engaged rethinking of high-rise fabric.”
Its innovative, boutique-inspired interiors earned it the tagline “Designed to Be Different.”
